PRACTICE
HISTORY
In the early days of general practice, the family doctor
usually practised from his own living room. Two such practices existed in Prestatyn
during the 1940s and 1950s. In 1962 they amalgamated and built a surgery in central
Prestatyn. At that time there were five doctors in this group.
Over the next 25 years, the practice gained four more doctors and outgrew the
premises, which had been adequate for the needs of the local population in the
1960s and 1970s. It was apparent by the late 1980s that building expansion had
to happen, and this was carried out on the same site in 1989. The result is the
current Central Surgery.
Throughout this time, we have tried to keep the family atmosphere which was very
much a part of those early days. Whilst the building may be large and imposing,
we aim to keep the atmosphere friendly and inviting.
Over this period of time, a network of two branch surgeries has been set up in
our more outlying communities where, for one reason or another, it is difficult
for much of the population to travel into central Prestatyn.
These branch surgeries do not offer the full facilities of Central Surgery, but
have been improved to offer a wider range of services.
